Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday!
Top Ten Tuesday is an original weekly feature created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s is Upcoming Releases I’m On the Fence About. These are books you need help deciding if they’re worth adding to your TBR or not. I’ll keep an eye out for reviews that spotlight them.
1. Courting Darkness
Author: Robin LaFevers
I read the series that goes with this book, but it’s been so long that I’m not sure whether I want to pick this one up.
2. All Stars Fall
Author: Rachel Van Dyken
This book sounds good, but I have a hit or miss relationship with this author’s books. I want to see what other people say before I pick it up.
3. The Starless Sea
Author: Erin Morgenstern
It’s been so long since I read The Night Circus. I loved it, but I’m waiting to read reviews before I pick this one up.
4. Birthday Suit
Author: Lauren Blakely
It’s been a while since I’ve read a Lauren Blakely book because they were all starting to feel the same to me. I’m not sure if I will read this one or not.
5. Fatal Reckoning
Author: Marie Force
I haven’t read a book in the Fatal series since book 7 and this is book 14. I don’t know if I’m in the mood to play catch up.
6. The Mister
Author: E.L. James
I don’t know if I want to read this one or not. I liked 50 Shades when I read it. I did not like the movie or the first book from Christian’s POV. BUT I did love listening to EL James at BB18 and when I met her at ECAE in Seattle. I will probably read it just to see what it’s all about. We’ll see…
7. Lost Roses
Author: Martha Hall Kelly
I enjoyed Lilac Girls, but I don’t know if I want to read this one. I think I’ll wait for the reviews.
8. When Summer Ends
Author: Jessica Pennington
I liked her first book, but for some reason I’m not jumping on this one. I’ll probably read it…
9. Finale
Author: Stephanie Garber
This one is only because I haven’t read Legendary yet. I need to read that one to see if I want to finish this series.
10. The View from Alameda Island
Author: Robyn Carr
I used to love Robyn Carr books. Somewhere along the way I lost my love for them. I think I should give her another try. I’m not sure if it will be this book or not.
You should read Legendary! It was really good and it will make you look forward to Finale.
Also, I have a hit or miss with Rachel Van Dyken as well. Especially after her failed attempt at Reverse Harem!
I think you all have talked me into reading Legendary now.
Reverse Harem? What book was THAT? Ugh
You really should! i enjoyed that one more than Caraval and that’s saying something!
& She attempted Reverse Harem in her book called Co-Ed. I hated it!
Oh, that’s right! I had wanted to read that one until I read that in your review. Ick.
I’m still mad about that book!
I’m gonna read James’ new book mainly because I wanna see how this book differs from 50 Shades!!
Now that you mention that, I have to read it too. (Which made the song Look what you made me do pop in my head for some reason. LOL)
I used to love Robyn Carr, too, but I think I got burnt out. I definitely want to try her again. I’m totally with you on the EL James. I don’t know if I want to read it, if I’ll feel the same way about her writing. My tastes have changed so much since I read the Fifty Series. I will probably try it just to see. 🙂 And the same with The Starless Sea. I don’t know how you live up to The Night Circus.
I definitely got burnt out on Carr. I think her Thunder Point series just got too repetitive for me or something. I didn’t connect with it the way I did Virgin River.
I like that we’re on the same page with all of these!
I keep seeing James new book being advertised everywhere right now and I have to admit I’m tempted. You can pretty much guarantee I’ll read it at some point, I’m just too curious.
You really should read Legendary, I loved it so much more than Caraval. That is however making me more nervous about Finale.
That’s what people keep telling me. I guess I’ll go request Legendary from my library…
I loved Legendary! You need to pick it up ASAP! It was amazing! The Starless sea sounds interesting but I’m not putting any high expectations on it.
I need to request Legendary’s audiobook from my library. I’m guessing that’s the way I’ll read it.
I haven’t read Legendary yet, either!
This is my Top Ten Tuesday post.
At least I’m not alone!
I’m ready for The Starless Sea!! I miss Erin Morgenstern. I love her The Night Circus.
That was a great book. I’m just not sure about it yet!
I’m not overly aware of these books, but I hope some turn out to be gems!
I enjoyed The Night Circus and Lilac Girls as well–but I feel similarly about the new books by those authors. I’m planning to read some reviews beforehand as well! 🙂
Glad I’m not the only one! 🙂
I have been wondering about Finale and Lost Roses as well. Great list!
The Starless Sea!! I’ve been waiting so long for another book by that author that I will absolutely read it.
I probably will, too. I’m just worried that my tastes have changed.
I am so excited for Courting Darkness!! I didn’t even know it was coming out or out until I saw it on someone else’s blog 😀 I loved her other trilogy sooooo much … ACK so excited. I did not like Legendary so it turned me off from reading Finale… but maybe someday if I really want to know what happened I’ll pick it up.. maybe…
Good to know! I’ll be curious to hear what you think of Courting Darkness!
I’m with you on RVD, though honestly she’s more miss with me so I don’t even look into hers anymore. And with Marie Force it’s the Gansett Island series that I feel like I’m giving up on! I’m just too far behind. I was hoping to catch up via audiobook, but I didn’t like her narrator. Ah well.
I still haven’t read a Lauren Blakely, but after seeing a teaser about all the narrators they used for Birthday Suit, I want to listen to it now!! Too bad it’s not on Audible Romance Package.
And I never read 50 Shades, so I doubt I’ll read this one either. I’m a hipster, I tend to avoid uber popular reads. *snort*
It’ll be interesting to see which ones you decide to try, and which ones fall by the wayside! Since I know you have a TON more that you are looking forward to, I figure it’s good to be choosy sometimes! 😉
Well, that Gansett Island series started out well. I think the first like 6 books were really good. Then it became all catch up with past characters. There would be a new romance, but it wouldn’t go very deep because she kept going back to old characters. I finally gave up because I just wasn’t interested anymore. I think it’s okay that you gave up!
Oh! You should read/listen to Big Rock by Lauren Blakely. I loved that one! It is old enough, maybe it’s on one of those.
Hipster. LOL. I love it. I read it back in the day when it became super popular because I was curious. I have to admit it was addictive.
Now that you mention it, I think I grew frustrated with that aspect of the Gansett Island series…
You probably did! 😉
I am also on the Fence about The Mister. I am super excited for Finale.
Everyone is excited for Finale, so I’ll guess I’ll read Legendary!
Yes you should very soon!
I’ve always been interested in the Fatal series. Have I started them? No……but I’ve thought a lot about them lol!!! How are they?! Longer series start to feel like the same book over and over I’ve experienced.
They’re good. I would recommend them. They remind me a little of Nora Roberts In Death series, but not totally.
