Once upon a time, in a faraway place…

I learned that monsters exist
That the dark is meant for fear
That sometimes, you can’t even count on yourself

I just have to get past senior year finals, and I can break away-

I can leave the past,
the monsters,
the ghosts,
far, far behind.

I just can’t break beforehand.

Breakaway is the second of two prequels to the upcoming Playmaker Duet. The first prequel, Troublemaker, gave a glimpse into Porter Prescott’s teenage life and the first time he met Asher Spence. Breakaway is the prequel that gives us a look at what happens in Asher’s life in the months before she meets Porter.

Asher’s story is an unhappy one. It’s dark and disturbing. Some readers may have a tough time reading it. What she went through completely broke my heart. I wanted to wrap Asher in a big hug. Reading her short novella makes me want to read the rest of the Playmaker Duet even more. I need to see Asher get her happy ending.
