Synopsis: She created the game, but the rules are about to change.
Taurus: Hold fast to your single-minded nature today—no matter how long her legs or how lush her red lips.
Gemini: You were a shining star last night, but reality can be a real—well, you get the picture. Just remember: Tall, dark, and British equals no corner office for you.
Will Evans never wanted a reason to stay.
Holly Chandler wants nothing more than for him to go.
But neither one is prepared for what can happen in six months. Because it doesn’t matter what you want when what you need walks out the door.
Holly’s been busting her butt to make partner at Trousseau and there’s no way she’s going to let some stuck-up British arsehole get in her way—no matter how drop-dead gorgeous he is. But that doesn’t mean she can’t have a little fun in the process. She has a six-month rule: date just long enough for the honeymoon phase to wear off, then walk away before anyone gets hurt. If they both know the rules up front, walking away will be a piece of cake. Or maybe not…
*SIX MONTH RULE is a stand alone book in a connected series.
Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆
Six Month Rule is the first book I’ve read by A.J. Pine, but the second book in the Kingston Ale House series. While there were some things I would have known about the supporting characters had I read the first book, I didn’t feel like I was missing anything that would change how I felt about Six Month Rule.
This enemies to lovers story was pretty amusing. I easily got caught up in the plot of two workaholics agreeing to a sex only relationship for six months. You knew they were going to end up falling for each other, but it didn’t matter because the journey they took to realizing they were in love was entertaining.
The characters came to life from the very beginning of the story, and the banter they shared was enjoyably witty. I loved Holly’s go-getter attitude and her desire to show Will she was just as good at her job as he was. I also loved her softer side that came out as she let her feelings for Will take over.
Will started out as such a fun, almost stuffy character. His love for his young daughter made him all the more attractive. I could identify with his putting her first and his own needs on hold. I also enjoyed how he was honest with himself about his feelings, whether he shared those feelings with Holly or not.
Holly and Will’s romance was a very sexy and sweet slow-burn. They started things off quickly sexually, but their feelings progressed naturally. The time frame of lust to love was what I would expect it to be in real-time, in a real relationship. I liked how it wasn’t over a week that their feelings emerged, but months. The way their relationship and story wrapped up was pretty perfect.
I do have to admit there was one thing about the writing that did bug me a bit. Somewhere in the middle of the story, the pace slowed down quite a bit for me. I’m not sure if it was the slow-burn of the romance (which I actually liked) or all the descriptions. There were a lot of times I wished there was more communication or dialog between characters instead of thoughts or descriptions. Things did speed back up toward the end of the book, and I really enjoyed that part of the story.
Overall, I really liked Six Month Rule. A.J. Pine is a talented writer and I think other Contemporary Romance readers will really enjoy her book.

ABOUT A.J. PINE
AJ Pine writes stories to break readers’ hearts, but don’t worry—she’ll mend them with a happily ever after. As an English teacher and a librarian, AJ has always surrounded herself with books. All her favorites have one big commonality–romance. Naturally, her books have the same. When she’s not writing, she’s of course reading. Then there’s online shopping (everything from groceries to shoes) and, of course, a tiny bit of TV where she nourishes her undying love of vampires and superheroes. And in the midst of all of this, you’ll also find her hanging with her family in the Chicago burbs.
