Top Ten Tuesday: The One Where I Tell You All About My Love of Contemporary Romances

http---www.pixteller.com-pdata-t-l-435619

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature created by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is Ten Facts About Me (bookish or just general about you facts or ten facts about you as a blogger…whatever you want).

As you can tell, I changed that up a bit and went with a title a little more fitting for me. 😉

  1. In case you weren’t aware, my favorite book genre is Contemporary Romance. I like adult, NA and YA. My favorite of the three is NA.
  2. I’m not a huge Fantasy fan. I think it’s because I’m getting old and have a horrible imagination. I will read ones that come highly recommended from reliable sources.
  3. I try to avoid reading Sci-Fi and Horror at all cost. I can’t do aliens and I hate being scared.
  4. I love psychological thrillers, but I usually have to read another fluffy book at the same time. That way I can take breaks from all the mental stress.
  5. When my friends ask me for books recommendations, I give them entire lists. I’ve also had them corner me at the library and ask me to pick up a book for them.
  6. I recommended Elle Kennedy’s Off-Campus series to my sister. When she was reading one of them, my brother-in-law picked up the book and read the part she was at. He now thinks I read “dirty” books.
  7. I know I’ve said this before, but I picture every book hero (no matter what they’re supposed to look like) as Nick Bateman. And now you can, too! You’re welcome.
  8. My least favorite book relationship trope is the student-teacher one. I have a hard time with that now that my daughter is a student. There’s just a trust you have to have in your child’s teacher. I have found a few I was okay with, but they’re few and far between.
  9. My two favorite relationship tropes are best friends to lovers and enemies to lovers.
  10. If I could tell you to read one book series this summer, it would be Nine Minutes by Beth Flynn. It is amazing. There are so many twists and turns. Every single one of the people I’ve recommended it to that have read it (at least 5) have read it and loved it. Do it, people!

  1. I used to be obsessed with Contemporary Adult Romance, and then had a falling out when YA hit it so big. But now that I am starting to get interested in CAR again, it seems like everything that is popular is just so raunchy. Where are my sweet stories, a la Jennifer Crusie and Susan Elizabeth Phillips?

I think it’s so funny that you picture the same guy for every book! And seriously, who wouldn’t, when it’s someone that yummy!

I can’t stand Student/Teacher relationships either. Even if it’s in college, I still just can’t. I don’t know why, but it really does bug me!

    My TTT.

    • I’ve read some sweet CR lately that wasn’t so raunchy. Matt by R.C. Ryan was one. Oh, and Lauren Layne’s new Wedding Belles series would be a good one, too. I think the first book comes out next month. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your opinions! 🙂

  2. I feel the same way about student-teacher romances. I just can’t get on board with them. But I love best friend to lovers, enemies to lover and second chance romances. They are the BEST ONES, in my opinion!

  3. I’m also not a big fan of Fantasy/Sci Fi/Horror. I’ve tried, but it’s just not for me. I mean, I have read a liked a few things, but not enough to make me want to read more. Great Top Ten! 😀
Wow, it’s awesome that you were named after Alyssa Milano! I loved watching who’s the boss growing up! Great Top Ten! 😀
    My Top Ten Tuesday!

  4. My absolute favorite is Contemporary Romance’s also! I can’t get enough. Give me a glass of wine and a Contemporary novel and I am all set for a night 🙂

  5. Great top ten! I love fantasy, but I’m getting more into the contemporary romance. Elle Kennedy’s Off-Campus series is definitely on my TBR, even if I have to be careful if someone may read it and also think I like ‘dirty books’ 😀 Also, yes to your two favorite relationship tropes! I could read those over and over again 🙂

  6. Nick Bateman – thank you! How have I never heard of him? I like friends to lovers as well; I also love second chance romance. And Nine Minutes was amazing:)

  7. Wow… We do not read any of the same books from the sounds of it as I am easily annoyed by fluff, which usually deters me from contemporary. And I’m not one for romance because while it’s okay as a sub-plot, I can’t handle it being the main plot. >.> *wanders back to the scifi/fantasy realm with dragons and intrigue and awesomely bad guys* :p

  8. I’m veeery easily spooked myself but I actually really like aliens in fiction, haha. It’s exciting for me to think about the world coming together and working against this one force, which is usually the theme of many alien invasion movies/books. 😛

And I’m also not big on student-teacher romances. I’ve read some that I thought was OK, but I don’t think I’ll encourage it ever if the student is younger than, say, their twenties. Usually it strikes me as a bit predatory and that’s iffy. :/

  9. I just spent like 15 minutes going through Nick Bateman’s feed… thank you hahah
I also really enjoy those tropes. When they start off as enemies is so fun.

  10. I cannot read horror, not that I’ve tried but I know I can’t watch it. Do you have any good enemy to lovers book recs? (I now expect a list LOL) I love that trope.

    • Oh! Yes! A good one is Kelly Siskind’s My Perfect Mistake. Wallbanger by Alice Clayton. Smut by Karina Halle. The Player and the Pixie…Normally, I have more time to come up with them!

  11. Hahahaha there are definitely worse looking people than Nick Bateman 😉
But don’t say the thing about imagination! That would be so sad if that correlated with age.

    • I guess I just see my daughter whose imagination is amazing and mine is nowhere as cool as an 8 yr olds!

    • I know, I know. I’m not big on most of the topics within the genre. 🙁 Every once in a while I find one that interests me, but not often.

  12. I am opposite of you. I love fantasy and avoid contemporary romance. But that being said, I like my books to have an element of romance in them. And I really love the best friends/enemies to lovers tropes, too.
And I’ll take Nate Bateman. Thanks :).

  13. I absolutely love the best friend to lovers trope. I think it’s such a cute story and my shippers heart usually gets all fluttery and warm with those books. I have never been able to get into horror books. Too much blood and guts for my liking haha. 😛

  14. Great facts for this week! 😀
I’m the same I really like the best friends to lovers trope, maybe because there’s already so much development between the two characters already, but my favourite is the enemies to lovers, just because of the snark and tension between the two characters that eventually develops into more.

  15. I sooooo agree with you about aliens–I just CAN. NOT. I’ve read several books with alien characters and I just… Ick. No, thank you.

The only alien book I remember enjoying reading was The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, because…well–Douglas Adams is bombtastic at what he does. So yeah, that book? Definitely would do again. Other books with aliens? Maaaaaybe not so much!

Thanks so much for stopping by my TTT this week, sweets! Happy book-ing to you!

  16. Loved that guy Nick, good taste hahahaha Now I will start imagining all boys like him damn. Well, at least he is hot.
Great facts, definitely need some Contemporary Recs someday, it is not my field
