Synopsis:

Célian Laurent.
Manhattan royalty.
Notorious playboy.
Heir to a media empire.
…And my new boss.

I could have impressed him, if not for last month’s unforgettable one-night stand.
I left it with more than orgasms and a pleasant memory–namely, his wallet.
Now he’s staring me down like I’m the dirt under his Italian loafers, and I’m supposed to take it.
But the thing about being Judith “Jude” Humphry is I have nothing to lose.
Brooklyn girl.
Infamously quirky.
Heir to a stack of medical bills and a tattered couch.
When he looks at me from across the room, I see the glint in his eyes, and that makes us rivals.
He knows it.
So do I.
Every day in the newsroom is a battle.
Every night in his bed, war.
But it’s my heart at stake, and I fear I’ll be raising the white flag.

You know how in real life there’s those foul-mouthed egotistical jerks you meet and you think someday this douchebag is going to meet the chick that puts him in his place? That is who Célian Laurent is. He’s ruthless, dirty, sexy, and a complete jerk. Célian’s the type of guy who intimidates people with one look. As a reader, you know he’s never going to be the nice or good guy. You love to hate him. He’s always going to be the jerk, but you also know that finding the right chick is going to soften him a bit. That makes him lovable for some reason. I found myself loving his character when I felt like I should have hated him.

Jude Humphry is one of my new favorite characters. She was the light to Célian’s dark. Jude is a woman who had nothing to lose. Literally nothing. Winding up working for the man whose wallet she stole after a one night stand would make lesser women cower. For Jude, it’s a challenge. She’s not about to let the pompous jerk interfere with the new job she so desperately needs. Jude doesn’t back down. She’s got the backbone to put Célian in his place. She gives back exactly what she’s dealt while making friends and doing a kick ass job.

Dirty Headlines was a very entertaining romance. Célian and Jude have an explosive relationship from the very beginning. Neither wants to feel what they do for the other. They fight, bicker, and banter. Their chemistry keeps them from walking away. Nothing seems easy between the two of them, and yet it kind of is. I loved the way their relationship evolved from a one night stand to more. The way they began to open up to each other was very sweet. Their connection grew from just sex to a deeper, more intimate connection. I especially loved how Célian’s feelings for Jude improved his life, but didn’t completely change him.

I also need to mention the newsroom. It was fun to see Célian and Jude in a competitive work environment. I loved everything that happened there! So much of the romance and non-romance parts of the story were wrapped up in what went down in the newsroom. It also gave Jude some cool coworker friends who I wouldn’t have minded seeing more of.

Dirty Headlines is exactly the type of book I’ve come to expect from L.J. Shen. If you loved her Sinners of Saint books and characters, then you will love this book.

About LJ Shen:

L.J. Shen is an International #1 best-selling author of Contemporary Romance and New Adult novels. She lives in Northern California with her husband, young son and chubby cat.

Before she’d settled down, L.J. (who thinks referring to herself in the third person is really silly, by the way) traveled the world, and collected friends from all across the globe. Friends who’d be happy to report that she is a rubbish companion, always forgets people’s’ birthdays and never sends Christmas cards.

She enjoys the simple things in life, like spending time with her family and friends, reading, HBO, Netflix and internet-stalking Stephen James. She reads between three to five books a week and firmly believes Crocs shoes and mullets should be outlawed.
