Synopsis:

Mallory Vaughn is at a crossroads in her life. A year after learning that Big Mac McCarthy is her father, she’s spending more and more time on Gansett Island, surrounded by the large and boisterous McCarthy family. When she’s laid off from her longtime job, Mallory goes to visit her family on Gansett and tries to figure out the next chapter. An unexpected job offer will have her packing up her home in Providence to move to the island for at least the summer, if not longer. She decides to make this the “Summer of Mallory,” full of new adventures, new people and new opportunities. Will a new love also be part of the Summer of Mallory? Anything is possible on Gansett Island, especially true love.
Take the ferry back to Gansett to catch up with the McCarthy family and their friends. Be on hand as Laura and Owen welcome their twins and the family comes back together for another summer of love and adventure on Gansett Island.

Note: I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an unbiased review.

Fans of Marie Force and her Gansett Island series are sure to love her newest release, Light After Dark. It’s exactly what they have grown to love and expect from Force. There is a new and exciting love story between Mallory and a mystery man, but there are also snippets from past couples as well. It was fun to be back on the friendly and beautiful island.

Light After Dark, like all of the Gansett Island novels, is written in a third person narration. This makes it possible for the reader to experience not only the two main characters’ thoughts, but side characters’ as well. Third person is not my favorite way to read a love story, but in this case it makes the transitions between all of the characters move smoothly.

I enjoyed Mallory’s love story. It’s a bit of a possible love triangle at first, but quickly moves away from the possibilities of more than one suitor. Both Mallory and her man had deep pasts. I loved how they helped to bring them together and make them stronger as a couple. They were both great people getting a much deserved second chance at love.

What I loved the most about Light After Dark, though; was the little pieces of previous couples stories peppered throughout. There’s something about those original characters that I really love. I love them so much that I’ve had a harder time loving the newer characters as much. I’m always excited to see what they’re up to, even if I should have been focusing on Mallory and her man.

Overall, Light After Dark was a fun trip back to Gansett Island. Readers dedicated to the series are going to love it.
