22-year-old Ari Munoz is used to keeping men at arm’s length. So when her best friend Vonne guilts her into going to a frat party, she couldn’t think of a worse way to spend a Thursday night. That’s until she sparks the interest of love’m and leave’m Ben Rodriguez. The electricity she feels when they lock eyes is something she’s never felt before.

22-year-old Ben Rodriguez has it all. He’s a football star, president of his fraternity, and well-known ladies’ man. His endless pick of beauties, makes him the envy of all of his fraternity brothers. So why are a pair of long legs and hazel eyes making him want to throw out all of his rules?

*This novel deals with adult themes and language. 18+ please. This is book 1 in a series and contains a cliffhanger.

I don’t even know where to start with this one. I was completely underwhelmed by this book. It had such potential, but it just failed to reach it. The beginning was really strong, but it fizzled shortly thereafter. Why? Oh, gosh. There are several reasons.

Say Something was built on instant attraction and lust. It was not a good insta-lust. It was a weird one. Ari and Ben were completely obsessed with each other, and they hadn’t done more than make eye contact. It was creepy!

Ari was a contradiction. One moment she was weary of men because of her past, the next she was willing to give it up to someone she didn’t know. She’s never met him and has only made eye contact after feeling him watch her, but she’s already worried how she’s going to compete with his supermodel look alike booty call girl? How does she even know she’ll like him? She’s not a booty call sort of girl. Her actions didn’t make sense to me. I needed there to be more buildup of trust before she gave herself to him.

Luckily, Ben was a cool guy. I worried about him in the beginning since he seemed like such a creeper, but he quickly redeemed himself. His relationship with his grandmother was really sweet. I almost wish the entire story had been in his point of view. I would have liked to have seen more of his life outside of Ari.

I wish I could say I loved Ari and Ben together, but there wasn’t much of a connection between them that wasn’t sexual. 99% of their time spent together was sex. There were a few important conversations peppered in, but not enough to show their love was based on anything else. I mean, I like sex, but I want to feel a connection between the characters.

As for the writing, it was good, but the dual points of view killed me for a while. It wasn’t that I didn’t like having both, it was just that each point of view overlapped the exact same time frame. I got the same exact story, just different perspectives. It felt redundant. I liked the story better when that stopped. I was a little confused when Ben’s ex Maria’s point of view suddenly popped up in the book. I know it was to clarify her motives, but it felt a little out-of-place to me. I don’t think it really added anything to the story.

There were a couple of interesting twists I didn’t see coming. The last one created the cliffhanger for the ending. I have to say I wasn’t a fan of it. I was pretty disgusted by it actually. I probably won’t be reading the next book because of it.

I know this review has sounded mostly negative so far, but there were some positives about Say Something. As I pointed out above, Ben was cool. And I loved both Ben’s grandma and Ari’s family. Their relationships brought a fun family aspect to the story.

Sadly, the negatives outweighed the positives for me with Say Anything. I really wish I had enjoyed it more.

    1. What really bugged me was the last POV added. Just ick. I wouldn’t be able to read the next book because of that!

  1. I haven’t heard of this one, but the whole creepy insta-lust doesn’t seem like it would work out very well. I’m not even sure I want to know what happened in the cliffhanger ending that had disgusted you so much! I’m sorry that you didn’t enjoy this one as much as you had hoped to!

    1. Yeah, it’s definitely not one I would suggest. I guess they can’t all be.
